FLASS connects with future students at Shanghai recruitment seminar

Ms Dolores He Peiying briefs the audience on the seven new double-degree undergraduate programmes that FLASS offers. The programmes welcome their first cohort of students in the coming academic year of 2025/26.

The seminar attracts parents and students from Shanghai, neighbouring cities and distant provinces such as Heilongjiang.

To promote our programmes and clarify our admission requirements, the faculty sent representatives to attend a recruitment seminar held on 18 April at the Youth Center in the Huangpu District of Shanghai. At the seminar coordinated by the Global Affairs Office (GAO), Ms Dolores He Peiying from the faculty’s marketing team provided first-hand information and application guidance for students and parents interested in applying for our undergraduate and master’s programmes. Mr Loren Liu Linrui from the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS) briefed prospective students on the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Personal Finance and the Master of Arts in Personal Finance Education programmes.

The promotional event was well-received with many aspiring students enquiring about the programmes that FLASS offers. “More than 120 visitors attended the recruitment seminar. While most were parents, there were also high school students present. In addition to local students, some parents and students travelled from Nanjing and even the distant province of Heilongjiang to attend the seminar in Shanghai,” Ms He said.

During the seminar, FLASS representatives updated visitors on general information about the faculty as well as the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes we offer. “In addition, we briefed the audience on internship arrangements within our programmes, the achievements of our research projects, and the upcoming Faculty Info Day, which will be held both on campus and online on 17 May 2025,” Ms He added.

Among students enquiring about undergraduate studies at FLASS, many expressed interest in geography, personal finance and integrated environmental management programmes, whether as four-year single-degree or five-year double-degree curriculums. Programmes related to AI and educational technology, STEM education, mathematics and pedagogy were especially popular among those considering postgraduate study at EdUHK.

Some parents even mentioned that they would consider transferring their children to EdUHK.

While the majority of enquires focused on entrance requirements through the Joint Entrance Examination for Universities in Mainland China, there were also questions from parents about admission criteria for applications via the IB and SAT. “Some parents even mentioned that they would consider transferring their children, who are currently studying at overseas universities, to EdUHK,” Ms He remarked.

Representatives from the three faculties—FLASS, FHM and FEHD—as well as the Graduate School, and the Academy for Educational Development and Innovation attended the one-day seminar organised by GAO. Through outreach initiatives like the Shanghai recruitment seminar, FLASS has not only enhanced its visibility among prospective students but also fostered connections with various educational institutions beyond Hong Kong.
